Fun with percussion...

One of the best ways to give a lift to chorus sections is by bringing in some percussion elements. How u apply them is where u can get creative. Had three elements to work with on a song: conga, tambourine, and claps. So for first chorus brought in conga panned left half way through the chorus. For second chorus brought the conga in right @ the chorus start and brought in tambs panned hard right at the halfway point. For the last chorus brought conga and tambs in right away and added some claps panned center. So now the percussion is covering the entire stereo spread and providing a build with variation as the song progresses. Did one more trick to raise the interest level a bit more but will have 2 save that 4 another day.

Crystal Castles + Robert Smith= Jesus

Not in Love by Crystal Castles ft. the vocal stylings of Robert Smith

Pretty easy song to play if you want to try putting yr own spin on it. It does the Eb-F-Gm progression in the verses. For the change just play Bb-Gm. Then The chorus is performed over the verse changes with lots of trance/noise synth.

Is Halloween Over Yet?

Here's another spooky one from us to you. Did some experimentationing on this one, hopefully it ended up lo-fi in a cool way and not too unglamorous. But you just don't want to do run of the mill when your band is called Galaxy Swan.

About Time

Been using pro tools as our DAW of choice and are really gassed with the new PT9 announced over the weekend. The difference between PT HD and this is practically negligible unless you're doing a lot of film/post work. The differences between the big studios and people recording in their bedroom is getting smaller by the day.
